Plaka and Acropolis foothills, Sunday 4 Dec.

The Athens Strollers walk in central Athens on Sunday 4 December shall start at 12:00 noon. The walk will last up to 1 h 30 min and will be led by Dimitris (cell 6945028706). After cutting through the National Garden and Zappeion, we shall enter Plaka at Hadrian’s Gate. The walk is designed to avoid (as far as possible) gaudy souvenir shops and the like.  You can look forward to enjoying some stunning views, as well as meandering through the “Anafiotika” district with its Cycladic flavour. Some steps and some mild to medium uphill-downhill walking to be expected, but mostly the going will be easy. The walk will go ahead even in light rain.

Meeting point: A few meters to your right when facing the Parliament and the Unknown Soldier: on Amalias Avenue, outside the National Garden and by the Syntagma Metro station’s exit “National Garden/ Amalias”, opposite the Tram terminus.

Coming from the North: Bus X14 runs from Kifissia on weekends and its last stop is right at the meeting spot, or you can take the metro.

Coming from the South: The tram is convenient, albeit slow.

Coming from the Center: just a short stroll from your home, or you can take the metro to Syntagma square.

Taverna: T.B.D.

Note that if you wish to take your private car, street parking is very tight in Plaka, especially when the weather is good. Park-meters are not operational on Sunday BUT there are extensive resident-permit-only zones (you are likely to get a 40 euro fine even on Sunday). Thus a safer option is to resort to open-air or closed parking facilities with rather steep prices, but (slightly) cheaper than the fine. There are several on Nikodimou street.
