Briefing about the walk: On Saturday 24 March we set off from the cemetery of Kryoneri suburb. Start time is 2:00 pm. This is a pleasant walk through the Tatoi forest, which is looking good after all the rain of the past few months. Susan (6976536881) is leading the walk. The walk will take between 2 ¼ to 2 ½ hours, with a couple of short stops, and will go ahead even in light rain. It will be along dirt tracks, with no steep climbs. It is advisable to wear boots as it is likely to be muddy & it might be a good idea to bring a change of shoes.
How to drive to the Meeting point: Get to the village of Kryoneri, from the junction of Agios Stephanos on the Athens-Lamia National Road. There are many road signs to guide you up to here. The distance from the junction of Kifissia on the Athens-Lamia National Road (where you see the Smart cars dealership on your left hand side as you are driving north) to the junction of Agios Stephanos is 7 km. Drive along Leoforos (avenue) Kryoneriou; this is the principal road leading to the village. Drive through Kryoneri village, continue on the principal tarmac road that leaves the village built up area. This is heading to the village cemetery, which you will see on your left. The tarmac ends at a (horizontal) bar that prevents further access, with the cemetery adjacent, on your left. Park your car here. The distance from the turn for Kryoneri at the National Road, up to the walk start is 2.8 km. Here is a Google map, showing the last part of the route https://tinyurl.com/34z5lj2
About the taverna: After the walk we will have a meal at the Hagiati taverna in Kryoneri. This is located on the principal road taking us back to Kryoneri, on your right hand side (one of the first buildings we encounter). Address is 6, Leoforos Kryoneriou.
