Except Tatoi forest … there are still too many walking opportunities around Athens. So, on Sunday the 10^th of October SAS organize a hiking to the highest peak of Hymittos, called Evzonas, at an altitude of 1.026 m. From there the view of Athens, the Saronic Bay and the nearby islands is indescribable superb !

Duration of the hike is 4 hours approx., height difference to be covered is 650 m., so the difficulty is considered as medium.

Meeting point is at ‘‘ Anapsiktirio  tis  Kalopoulas ’’  at 09:45΄a.m.

What is that, concerning a long time period, but starts and stops at the same day ….? !
For those who don’t imagine the answer is:

The winter and spring walking program 2021, due to the unexpected covid-19 story! So, the SAS has now the opportunity to organize the programmed walk along the beautiful Vravrona Bay and the adjacent wetland at the south-east coastline of Attica.

Vravrona is one of the few remaining wetlands of Attica, an area of great ecological importance, included in the Natura 2000 network. It combines a landscape of great beauty, rich in biodiversity especially for birds, with numerous cultural elements, the most important being the archaeological site.

This walk is a combination of seaside footpaths, dirt roads that are connected through the swamps, a lovely asphalt road and a quick glimpse, from … outside the fence, at the famous temple of Artemis!

There are no significant height differences, just only 100 m over a hill from where the view of the coastline, the tiny islets and Artemis town is really spectacular.

Hi !

On Sunday the 18^th of October, SAS hope … to organize one more day-walk in the vicinity of Tatoi park at the foot base of Mt. Parnitha.

The whole route pass through a green lush landscape under the shadow of a virgin forest indescribable dense and there is a footpath net combined with remote dirt roads. Duration is 3 hours approx. and height difference to be covered not more than 90 m, so the difficulty grade could be considered as easy.

As we approach the end of the route there is a recreational area where we could take our lunch on picnic tables … !

Meeting point is outside the bakery which is at the south side of ‘ Varibopi ’ square at 09:00. Come earlier if you like to enjoy your morning coffee ! For those coming directly at the starting point there is another meeting at 09:30. This one is 750 m after passing the North ( main ) gate of Tatoi estate, where a spring exists on a by-pass of the road at right.

There is also a bus stop at Varibopi square ( No. 503 from Kifisia at 08:30 ), but if you like to take a lift to the start point you have to declare this up to 13^th and you’ll get an answer.

Once upon a time you were dreaming to go in a Greek island, now to go there is a dream of a … summer-night ! Despite that there is an island completely free of corona-virus and safe because it’s … uninhabited ! So, SAS organize at the 20^th of September a day-trip to ‘ Makronisos ’, an island in short distance from Lavrio that belongs administratively to Cyclades, going by traditional boat ( caique ) for short walking, visiting old historical buildings from exile era and of course swimming in superb beaches ! We plan to stay 3,5 hours approx. on the island, enough time to explore it and enjoy.

Keep in mind that there is completely no facilities in Makronisos, no tavern even no canteen, nothing !, so bring your survival kit with plenty of water.

Ticket for the boat is 15 € round-trip plus VAT, if you like to keep the receipt as a souvenir ! This is payable on boat or at the travel agent in Lavrio.

Please declare your participation as soon as possible and not later than the 16^th 19:00 p.m. in order to organize the transportation as the number of seats on boat are limited. Also weather condition is an important point to focus as 6 beaufort and over is forbidden for sea-travel, so in this case our day-excursion will be converted to an interesting walking in the nearby National Park of Sounio where the ancient mines existed, visiting the Technological Park of the French Company of Lavrio Mines, swimming at the lovely beach of ‘ Thoriko Bay ’ and of course eating in one of the many fish taverns in Lavrio which is standard in both cases !

Meeting point is at ‘ Roloi café ’ in Lavrio at 08:30 a.m.  Estimating arrival time back to Athens is 19:00 p.m.

Now Greek islands are free zone … to travel, so SAS organize the programmed hike on Sunday the 7^th of June in Evia island at the foothills of Dirfis mountain.

The hike will take place in a forested area north of Steni village up to the ‘ EOS Chalkidas ’ refuge and way back will be from another footpath combined with a forest road. Total distance is 9 km approx. and duration 6 hours approx. including one hour stop at least at the mountain hut, height difference to be covered 600 m so the difficulty of this hike could be considered as medium.

Meal or dinner could be taken either at the refuge, if it’s open …, or at Steni which is full of traditional taverns, under the shadow of ‘ Platanus ’ trees, we hope without waiting a long queue … cause arrival time at village will be at 16:00. Estimated arrival time in Athens at 21:00.

Meeting point is at 08:15 in N. Erythraia on 162 Tatoiou str. just 100 meters before the Varibopi motorway junction and the traffic lights, as we come from Kifisia, where an Everest café exists at right. There, you’ll find also a car park.
As usual a car pooling system could be applied between us. Estimated cost 36 € per car approximately.

They told us … that coronavirus has gone now and that will visit us again in October ! So, we are free … for the time being … and thus we decided once again to organize the programmed walk on Saturday the 9^th of May at 11:00 a.m.
The stroll will start from Agios Kosmas and finishes at Voula. We’ll pass from several beaches and marinas walking always on a serpent pavement almost parallel to the Saronic Bay and having as a company the breeze of the sea with or without coronavirus …
At the end point, 300 m. away, there are three options to recover from the walk, Roll & Roll souvlaki, ΒΕΝΕΤΗ bakery and patisserie FRESH all take away on the street … !

Distance is around 7 to 8 km and duration 2,5 hours approx.
Probably we’ll organize two groups of ten people each. So the participations will be limited to twenty !
Return will take place by ‘‘ TRAM ’’ from Voula, so this time doesn’t matter if you ‘ll forget your head torch but is very important not to forget your mask .. !
